Buying a first ‘proper’ watch can be surprisingly intimidating. The deeper you look, the more opinions you find. We started White Rose Watch Co. as collectors, not because we wanted to make watch buying feel more complicated.
1. Buy something you keep looking at
A technically brilliant watch you feel nothing for is still a bad purchase for you. We have both been drawn to watches because of one detail: a dial colour, a case shape, an integrated bracelet or even the way the seconds hand moves.
2. Think about how it will actually fit
Case diameter is useful, but it is not the whole story. Lug-to-lug length, thickness and bracelet design all affect the result.
3. Do not assume automatic always means better
We love automatic watches, but quartz is often more accurate and convenient. Choose mechanical because you enjoy the engineering, not because somebody has told you quartz is beneath you.
4. Look at the whole watch, not just the logo
A famous name does not guarantee that every model is good value. Look at the bracelet, clasp, crystal, movement, dial finishing and overall design.
5. Decide what ‘value’ means to you
For us, value means getting something genuine, well made and enjoyable at a sensible price. That idea is a big part of why we started White Rose Watch Co.
