Some watches become popular because they are fashionable for five minutes. Others land at exactly the right time and genuinely move the market. We think the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 falls into the second camp.
We know the PRX well. It has been part of our own collecting and part of the early story of White Rose Watch Co. That means we are not looking at it as a distant ‘luxury object’. We have handled them, worn them and spent far too long looking at the way the bracelet catches the light.
That bracelet really matters
The bracelet is a huge part of the PRX. The broad first links flow directly from the case and taper down the wrist. It is one of those watches where the bracelet is not an afterthought.
The Powermatic 80 movement
The clue is in the name: the automatic movement offers a long power reserve of around 80 hours. In normal life, that is useful. You can take the watch off for a couple of days and have a much better chance of finding it still running when you come back.
Is it overhyped?
We understand why some enthusiasts get tired of seeing the same watch recommended again and again. But popularity does not automatically make a watch bad. The PRX became popular because Tissot got a lot right.
